For most of last week’s Pencils of Promise field visit, we were in very remote areas where hotels are very simple, but of course while working in the field, I would never expect nor want to be in a nice hotel.
I did end this trip, however, with a stay at a lovely hotel in the incredibly cute city of Antigua, Guatemala. The hotel is Porta Hotel La Antigua and I recommend it to anyone going to Guatemala, even if just for one night. The hotel is still quite affordable, but definitely has a special feel with unique decor details. The staff is incredible and the rooms are cozy and chic. I had the staff make a fire in the fireplace in my hotel room and enjoyed views of the nearby volcano.
There is also a pool and restaurant, but I spent my time exploring the town of Antigua where you can find authentic crafts made by locals.
This hotel is a must if you ever make your way down to Guatemala!
