Happy International Women’s Day! Okay… so I know it was technically last week, but I personally think we should celebrate women every day! I got to spend Women’s Day with Barneys New York as a speaker both on a panel at a luncheon and also as the keynote for a cocktail event that evening. I truly can’t think of a better way to spend Women’s Day than with such an incredible retail partner.
Barneys is not only a huge supporter of my brand The Starling Project and my story, but they also happen to be one of UNICEF’s largest corporate donors. I am constantly in awe of the Barneys culture that so strongly supports giving back and also so strongly supports its designers.
I was honored to have been on a panel with 3 other incredible designers including fashion designer Lisa Perry, jewelry designer Ana Khouri and shoe designer Nicolo Beretta of Giannico. We were interviewed by the amazing Simon Doonan, the Creative Ambassador for Barneys. We were asked many questions about our careers and accomplishments, but my favorite question was “Which woman has inspired us the most?” Given that it is a very difficult question to answer with just one woman, I mentioned a few women who inspire me. You can find their names below. The luncheon was inspiring and exciting, filled with some incredibly impressive women in all different fields and walks of life. I left feeling truly empowered.
We continued our day where our candles are displayed on the lower-level at Barneys. I had appointments with clients who wanted aromatherapy lessons and ultimately ended the day with an incredible cocktail event on the lower level where I was the keynote speaker. I was excited to share my story and answer questions while guests enjoyed bites and champagne. It was the best way to end an already amazing day! Thank you Barneys for your constant support and love!
3 Women who Inspire Me:
Stacie McDavid, my mother, a Lebanese-American who grew up raising her 4 younger siblings after her mother passed away when she was only 10 and then going on to be an award-winning track and javelin star. Not stopping there, she continued with launching a franchise of thirty-seven 24 Hour gyms between Texas and Florida. She now is the CEO of McDavid Companies, a real estate and investment company, and sits on 10+ non-profit boards dedicated to making a positive impact on the world.
Jane Addams , Nobel Peace Prize winner for her social work and for advocating for women’s rights.
Caryl Stern, the CEO of UNICEF USA, who has selflessly dedicated her life to saving the lives of women and children around the world.
Let’s all continue to love, empower and inspire one another! #girlbosses
