New York Fashion Week 2018
What a week! This fashion week, I got a late start given my trip to LA, but that didn’t stop me from going strong at it for two days. My two favorite shows are always Dennis Basso and Libertine, given my close friendship with both designers, so I make sure to never miss either show. They are also the two shows I go all out for!
Dennis Basso and Creative Director of Dennis Basso Emily Burnett worked with me for a year and a half designing my custom wedding gown and although Dennis was a family friend before the wedding, we got even closer during the process of designing my dress. I was fortunate to also gain a new friend, Emily, in the process. I think Dennis Basso’s line has some of the most beautiful, elegant gowns. I think Emily has such a grasp on creating effeminate, yet edgy pieces. For instance, you will see a model walking down the runway and your first thought is “what an elegant gown!” and then when the model gets closer to you, you realize it is entirely sheer. I love the element of surprise in each Dennis Basso show. This year’s was at Saint Bartholomew Church on the Upper East Side, which made for a completely unique experience. I knew I wanted an edgy look for the show, so I told the Basso team I wanted leather with a pop. Hence the amazing head-to-toe Basso look below!
The Libertine show is quite the opposite of Dennis Basso, but both brands reflect my personality and style. Sometimes I want to glam up and look elegant AF, so I wear Basso. Other times, I want to be playful, yet sophisticated, so I go for Libertine. If I could afford every piece in Libertine’s line, I would buy it all! Johnson Hartig is the Creative Director and Founder of Libertine. I like to tell him he is my spirit animal because he is always in the most upbeat, positive mood and is also always impeccably dressed in funky clothing. His line entirely reflects his personality. This collection included a blazer with real vintage watches as embellishments and hoodies with bling. Anytime I wear Libertine, I get stopped on the street continuously with people commenting on my clothing. Johnson truly is a creative genius who will make anything he dreams up a reality. I wore my Libertine Ambassador shirt with a Libertine blazer plus a vegan leather skirt and above the knee boots. Funny thing is, I felt like my outfit was tame compared to what others wore to the show!
