I am so excited to finally be sharing the highlight of my trip and one of the highlights of my life, so here it is: Honeymoon Part 3: Giraffe Manor!
Giraffe Manor is one of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings. Built in the 1930s, its stately facade, elegant interior and vibrant green gardens and courtyards are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. It is incredibly authentic and unique. We felt like we were transported back in time to Africa in the early 20th century. But the most incredible thing about Giraffe Manor is, of course, the endangered Rothschild Giraffes that roam the 12 acre property.
I have always been a huge animal lover and, to me, there are few things as special as a bond with a dog, cat or horse etc. However, I must admit that I had no idea it was possible to easily bond with a wild animal like a giraffe! These animals are beyond incredible. They are sweet and even funny. Some will quite literally put on a show to get your attention for that extra treat.
While I will admit that Giraffe Manor is not an inexpensive experience, it is important to know that the money spent goes directly to the conservation of the Rothschild Giraffe. We took the time to learn a little bit about the process and were pleased to learn that Giraffe Manor is a breeding ground and protection center for this endangered species. We were also happy to know that once the giraffes reach full size, they are released into the wild.
We enjoyed feeding the giraffes during both afternoon tea as well as during breakfast, which is when the giraffes stick their heads through the windows into the breakfast room of the Manor. My personal two favorite giraffes were Waridi and Daisy. Waridi was shy and sweet and Daisy was the exact opposite, but I loved that they both had such blatantly obvious personalities!
If you are looking to have the experience of a lifetime, definitely put Giraffe Manor on your list. It is one of the most special experiences I have had in my entire life!
