Ideal Uptown Day
After 6+ years in New York, I sometimes forget everything the city has to offer. When I first moved to New York, I thought for sure I would spend many afternoons in Central Park or at Lincoln Center etc. However as a downtown New Yorker, I must admit that I don’t make my way uptown often enough. On Friday, however, I had an final wedding dress fitting with friend and fashion designer Dennis Basso as well as a UNICEF luncheon at Fred’s at Barney’s, so I figured why not plan my entire day uptown.
I started the morning with an early breakfast meeting at Wayfarer. I love Wayfarer because it is a trendy restaurant that is great for any occasion. I enjoyed the Belgian waffles, which I highly, highly recommend. After breakfast, I had a little time before the UNICEF luncheon, so I walked around Central Park. I love any chance I get to step into the park because it is incredibly serene and peaceful – I love how it makes you forget you are in New York City. I got lucky with an overcast day, which meant no crowds (huge perk!). I also forgot how much I love the horse drawn carriages and pedi cabs; it’s so incredibly New York. I think every New Yorker should go to the park at least once a month. It is such a great reminder of what New York is all about. I suggest picnics on Sunday afternoons also.
I wrapped up my walk in the park and headed over to Barney’s to have my makeup done by YSL. L’Oreal is a partner of UNICEF, so they kindly offered the YSL beauty team to do my makeup ahead of the UNICEF Snowflake Luncheon. I am a proud UNICEF NextGen Chair for UNICEF’s Annual Snowflake Ball and speaking at the luncheon was an honor. I couldn’t be more excited for all that we have planned for this year’s ball. I hope you will join us in November!
Finally, I ended the day at Dennis Basso’s showroom on Madison to do the final fitting for my wedding dress. I wish I could share photos. We are only a month and half from the wedding though, so good news is that I will share it soon enough! Per usual, I overstayed my welcome at the showroom and ended up practicing dancing in my dress with Dennis — It was truly an calming and fun ending to an otherwise crazy week.
