We are finally only 3 months away from our wedding day, so a few friends of my family’s kindly hosted a Texas engagement party for Carey and me. It was the perfect Texas evening, filled with margaritas and yummy passed hor dourves (mini pesto grilled cheese – uh huh honey!), dinner and lots of laughter and fun!
Given that I wanted to focus on catching up with family and friends at the party, I thought it made sense to share my process getting ready. I always like to schedule hair and makeup earlier in the day to get it out of the way and then I do touch-ups right before the event. I also typically ask a few friends to come over ahead of events and parties so we can have a little champagne and set the positive tone for the night. It is always more fun when you have a pregame – right?
On Saturday, my friend Olivia (one of my Matron of Honor’s) came in town from Raleigh (even though she is 7 moths pregnant!) and she did an amazing job touching up my makeup. Experimenting with makeup is a hobby of hers, but I seriously sometimes feel like she is a professional. I think for evening events when you are the focus of the party, it is entirely acceptable to go a little darker with the eye makeup. It is also key to go with makeup that is long lasting. Check this week’s “Obsession” to see my lipstick of choice. I love how makeup artist Tressia Bond and Olivia’s finishing touches made my makeup look sexy, yet sweet.
I am also lucky to call Olivia one of my stylists. She is the best at picking and approving outfits including the dress I am wearing in these photos. : ) I think it is important to have an expert opinion on clothes especially because experts will notice things you may not like how a dress photographs or if there is something showing that shouldn’t be. Another key is adding a pop of color with accessories. In this case, I added my mother’s vintage emerald earrings. Finally, I always make sure to have my hairstylist add a little extra hairspray after a blowout since I usually have my hair done a few hours in advance. Once it is time to go, I run my fingers through my hair to loosen the curls. Then I am good to go!
The rest of the night was so perfect surrounded by friends and family. Now I am extra anxious for the wedding in August!
*Also pictured is Corina (my other Matron of Honor and lifelong best friend) and Caitlin (my bestie from college). You probably recognize them both from my bachelorette post a couple of weeks ago. Finally, my amazing parents, my future mother-in-law Lois, and Carey are also featured.
