I often get asked what my favorite places are to grab drinks in the city, so I figured I would share one of my all time favorites: The Standard Biergarten. It is one of my favorite places to grab drinks with friends year round, but I personally love it this time of year more than any other time. Why? Well there are many reasons including the Meatpacking district location under the famous High Line and the open seating with picnic tables filling the casual, yet sophisticated room.
The warmer spring weather just brings on the cravings for a cold beer or a Hiebe Liebe, a Standard Biergarten craft cocktail including vodka, raspberry, calpico, lemon and seltzer. If you don’t love vodka, I suggest trying the Hande Hock, a tequila and mezcal cocktail with fresh strawberry, lime and serrano pepper. Jesse the bartender can also hook you up with an off-menu cocktail if you ask. Although they sound fruity, I promise these drinks are not too sweet! I also can’t help but indulging in a pretzel and potato salad from the corner food stand in the Biergarten. I must say that living at the Standard has definitely meant I eat a pretzel from the Standard Biergarten at least once a week embarrassingly enough, but they are just so freaking good. Side note: If you do want a more substantial dinner, just head through the double doors near the bar right into the Standard Grill for a more formal dinner menu and dining experience.
Finally, one of my favorite things about the Standard Biergarten is the ping pong tables. It is so hard to find a solid bar in New York with ping pong tables. It is so fun! I once played for nearly an hour at the Biergarten in a mini tournament with a group of friends.
The Standard Biergarten is a must this season! I hope to see you there soon.
