With Paris Fashion Week kicking off next week, I thought I would share a Paris photo shoot I did during fashion week a while back with the talented Parisian photographer Camille Collin. I spent time living in Paris a couple of years ago while working on an interior design/architecture project and had the pleasure of meeting Camille. Ever since, we have been close friends. It was exciting and intimidating when Camille asked if I would do a shoot with her, but I figured why not?
I must say that doing a Paris photo shoot like this did make me nervous, but I can also say that there is something about Paris that just makes you feel like you can do anything. This shoot ended up being one of the best experiences for me, especially when it came to learning the do’s and don’ts of a photo shoot, which I share below. I did end up getting some good shots too thanks to Camille’s coaching. : ) She taught me what I now call the “confident eye” which means I basically give the camera a glare, but with confidence that I get from thinking “what would Marilyn Monroe do?”. Sounds cheesy, I know, but I swear it works! Try it out.
Paris Photo Shoot Do’s and Don’ts:
Have confidence – think “what would Marilyn Monroe do?”
Have a few outfit changes – some outfits won’t photograph as well as you expected, so be sure to have plenty of options
Let the photographer take tons of photos while you shift around trying different poses – one out of every 10 or so photos will look awesome!
Let the photographer coach you – most photographers have experience with what works and what doesn’t so they can guide you
Worry – I know that it’s easy to say not to worry, but if you have to have a glass of wine to calm your nerves then just do it so you make sure you feel comfortable
Be shy – this is definitely your opportunity to channel your inner model, so just go for it!
Put on too much makeup – show your true self, but maybe with a little edge in attitude and style : )
